What's the Difference between Equine Massage Therapy and Equine Fascial Integration Therapy?

Can’t decide which service is right for your horse? Feel free to contact us to learn more!

Equine Massage Therapy

  • Goal is to relax muscles and engage the “rest and repair” part of the nervous system.
  • Focuses mainly on muscle tissue.
  • Varies from session to session and is tailored to the horse’s current needs.
  • Provides temporary benefits.
  • Is usually very relaxing for the horse.
  • Great as preparation for or follow-up to other types of bodywork, like chiropractic adjustments or acupuncture.
  • Good for horses that are too old or too lame for Equine Fascial Integration Therapy.
  • Regular follow-up massages for maintenance is required for lasting results.
  • Scheduled as needed on a weekly to monthly basis.

Equine Fascial Integration Therapy

  • Goal is to help restore or enhance bio-mechanical function of the entire body by uncovering patterns of dysfunction and/or compensation.
  • Focuses mainly on connective tissue (aka fascia).
  • Follows an initial series of 6 sessions.
  • Provides long-lasting benefits.
  • Is often relaxing for the horse, but may also be intense or cause temporary discomfort.
  • Is usually a stand-alone bodywork service.
  • Good for horses that have subtle or “mystery” issues with their biomechanics
  • Requires owner to commit to doing “homework” exercises in between bodywork sessions.
  • Scheduled in an initial series, with occasional follow-ups once or twice per year as needed.

Learn About Equine Fascial Integration Therapy

Please note: Bodywork, including massage therapy and equine fascial integration therapy, is a therapeutic activity, and is not intended to treat any medical condition. Bodywork is not a substitute for medical examination, diagnosis, and care by a medical doctor (for humans), or veterinarian (for horses). Any individual who books services for themself or their horse acknowledges the hands-on nature of massage and bodywork treatment, and voluntarily and willingly assumes any risks associated with this treatment. It is strongly recommended that you seek the advice of a medical doctor or veterinarian before seeking bodywork services for yourself or your horse.
